What a salt wall is actually made of

Four things have to work together, and getting any one of them wrong shows up later:

1. The salt face. Salt bricks (2") for depth and durability, or tiles (1") for lighter decorative work. This is what people see.

2. Salt-bonding adhesive. This is the part people get wrong most often. Standard construction adhesive is opaque or tinted, and on a backlit translucent wall it shows as dark seams around every joint. It also isn't formulated for the way salt behaves against moisture. You need adhesive made for salt.

3. UV LED backlighting. Strip lighting behind the salt, mounted with a diffuser and an air gap. Direct LED contact produces visible hot spots; a gap and a diffuser produce an even glow.
4. A moisture-resistant backing frame. Wood or metal, sealed. This is what the salt bonds to, and it's what protects the surrounding structure over the long term.

Why kits instead of parts

The most common failure in a self-sourced salt wall isn't the salt — it's ordering 15% too few bricks and discovering it mid-install, or using a general-purpose adhesive made for salt because that's what the hardware store had. Kits remove both problems. The brick count is calculated for the stated area with allowance for cuts, and the adhesive is matched to the quantity.
