What a salt wall is actually made of

1. The salt face. Salt bricks (2") for depth and durability, or tiles (1") for lighter decorative work. This is what people see.

2. Salt-bonding adhesive. This is the part people get wrong most often. Standard construction adhesive is opaque or tinted, and on a backlit translucent wall it shows as dark seams around every joint. It also isn't formulated for the way salt behaves against moisture. You need adhesive made for salt.

3. UV LED backlighting.Strip lighting behind the salt, mounted with a diffuser and an air gap. Direct LED contact produces visible hot spots; a gap and a diffuser produce an even glow.
4. A moisture-resistant backing frame.Wood or metal, sealed. This is what the salt bonds to, and it's what protects the surrounding structure over the long term.
